The Challenge & Background
Environmental degradation in Delhi NCR calls for urgent citizen action beyond theoretical awareness. From heavily polluted Yamuna riverbanks to neglected neighborhood waterbodies, direct physical cleanups make an immediate difference.
Primary Objective
Mobilize young volunteers for weekly riverbank cleanup drives with Vrikshit Foundation, and organize corporate CSR lake cleanup and sapling plantation drives with Talent Foundation.
My Hands-On Role
Volunteer Coordinator & Media Documenter — participated on the ground with gloves and boots, coordinated volunteer squads, documented before-and-after transformations, and engaged local communities.
How We Planned It
- Organized early morning volunteer shifts, providing clear waste segregation protocols (plastics, glass, ceremonial waste, bio-degradable matter).
- Coordinated logistics: safety gloves, heavy-duty collection sacks, local municipal pickup coordination, and first aid readiness.
- Partnered with Talent Foundation to run CSR lake cleanup drives combined with native tree plantation to prevent post-cleanup soil erosion.
How It Was Executed On The Ground
- 1Participated in grueling on-ground cleanup drives along the Yamuna ghats, clearing metric tons of non-biodegradable waste.
- 2Led volunteer groups in digging pits, conditioning soil, and planting over 500 indigenous saplings around restored water bodies.
- 3Captured unvarnished photos and video reels documenting volunteer energy and the tangible difference made in local public spaces.
What Worked & Measurable Impact
- •Helped divert significant volumes of plastic and hazardous waste from polluting local waterways.
- •Restored public lake boundaries with native greenery, creating community pride in local neighborhood ecology.
- •Inspired corporate colleagues and youth volunteers to make environmental stewardship a regular weekend commitment.
Practical Lessons Learned
- •Real change happens when you show up with a pair of boots and a trash bag. Theory inspires conversations, but on-ground sweat inspires lasting community action.
